Upcoming Lecture on 12th October – “Hierarchical carbon nanotube microstructures for sensing, actuation and microbattery applications”

Prof. Michael De Volder at the University of Cambridge (a specially appointed professor at Tokyo Tech) will give us the lecture concerning ‘Hierarchical carbon nanotube microstructures for sensing, actuation and microbattery applications’ at FIRST, IIR. We look forward to your participation.

Time:  15:30 ~ 17:00 on 12 Oct. 2023 (1 hour of talk, about 30 minutes of Q&A)

Title:
Hierarchical carbon nanotube microstructures for sensing, actuation and microbattery applications

Abstract:
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted the interest of scientists because they show extraordinary mechanical and electrical properties. However, these properties are only valid in individual CNTs, whereas most engineering applications require the assembly of tens to millions of CNTs into one device. It is therefore mandatory to expand our knowledge about the structuring and organization of these nanomaterials. In this presentation, I will cover new methods to create well controlled CNT microstructures using a combination of top-down and bottom-up processes. I will discuss how these can be used in IR detectors, biosensors, microactuators, and microbatteries.
