Biography
Jun-ichi Takada has been vice president for international affairs at Tokyo Tech since March 2019. He concurrently serves as professor at the School of Environment and Society.
After receiving his doctor of electrical and electronic engineering degree from Tokyo Tech in 1992, he moved to the Faculty of Engineering at Chiba University as an assistant professor. Two years later, he returned to Tokyo Tech as associate professor at the International Cooperation Center for Science and Technology. While continuing his research on radiowave propagation for wireless communications, he coordinated numerous collaborations with universities in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, enhancing researcher mobility in the Asian region.
He was associate professor at Tokyo Tech's Department of International Development Engineering, Graduate School of Science and Engineering from 2001 until 2006, when he became professor. He was chair of the department from 2008 to 2010. After education reforms were implemented at the Institute in 2016, he served as chair of the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering from 2016 to 2018.
He also served as a part-time researcher at the Ultra Wideband (UWB) Radio Group and Medical ICT Group of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) from 2003 to 2006, and from 2006 to 2007. At NICT, he served as a national delegate to a task group of the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), and one Recommendation on UWB measurement was published during his chairmanship of the working group.
He has been involved in international development and cooperation projects in Mongolia, Laos, and Cambodia. He received testimonials for his efforts from the Governor of Bayankhongor Province, Mongolia in 2011 and the Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 2015.
He is a Fellow of IEICE, Senior Member of IEEE and Member of JASID (Vice President in 2020-23).
