Organometallic chemistry, Organic chemistry, Photochemistry

Biography

Munetaka Akita, born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1957, is a professor of Laboratory for Chemistry and Life Science (CLS) at Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Kyoto University (with Prof. Makoto Kumada) and Osaka University (with Prof. Akira Nakamura), respectively. In 1984 he moved to CLS as a research associate and during 1989-1990 worked with Professor J. Shapley (UIUC) as a postdoc. He was appointed as a professor in 2002 and had been director of CLS for 2012-2018. His research interests involve photoredox catalysis, carbon-rich organometallic molecular devices, and supramolecular systems based on aromatics.

Expectations for WRHI

I would like to develop a new world of organic synthesis through international collaboration, in particular, with India.
