Sergey Nikolaev
Specially Appointed Assistant Professor
Theoretical condensed matter physics
Biography
Dr. Sergey Nikolaev is a specially Appointed Assistant Professor at WRHI and Laboratory for Materials and Structures at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the Ural Federal University in Russia. He worked as a postdoctorate researcher at the King’s College in London (UK), at SPINTEC in Grenoble (France), and at the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba (Japan). His research interests are focused on theoretical studies of material properties and transport phenomena and cover a broad range of topics including first-principles calculations, realistic modeling approaches, and non-equilibrium field-theoretical methods. His studies aim at combining various numerical and analytical tools to understand the microscopic origin of electronic and magnetic properties and their interplay in real materials and exotic states of matter.
Expectations for WRHI
As a member of WRHI, I am looking forward to collaborating with other fellow scientists at Tokyo Institute of Technology and joining various interdisciplinary projects all over the world. I also hope that WRHI will help us build the international research networks in order to share expertise with other specialists and contribute to further progress in the field of condensed matter physics.
