Special lecture on Bending of a Tall Slender L-Section (大きなせいを有するL形断面を有する梁の曲げ挙動)

(2018年1月9日火曜日 15:00-16:30)
Place: Meeting Room2, 2F of Suzukake Hall (すずかけホール2階,集会室2)にて開催し、Mukai先生を囲んで活発な質疑応答が行われました。
Summary:
When a bending member has a tall and slender cross-section and is asymmetric (Ixy ≠ 0), there will be significant lateral deflections. This will be explained using advanced mechanics of materials principles. A cross-section based on typical L-Spandrels used in prestressed concrete garages will be analyzed as an example. The analysis will also include asymmetric shear, and torsion of thin rectangles. These effects are secondary to the asymmetric bending.
Conclusions from this work are:
・Asymmetric members (non-zero Ixy) with large Iyy and small Ixx will have large lateral deflections under vertical load.
・Symmetric members (Ixy=0) with large Iyy and small Ixx will have large lateral deflections under loads that are slightly off of vertical.
